While I think the clown who made the comments likening Lindenwood to East New York was definitely trying to belittle it, I don't think this thought process is necessarily a put down on most people's part, just a reflection of the pariochial, small town mentality of most New Yorkers that divides and then subdivides the city, e.g. Harlem isn't simply Harlem, it's Spanish (originally Italian) Harlem, East Harlem, "HARLEM" etc. I relocated to Florida in 1975 and lived in Coral Spring, I've seen some comments on this web site from people who are careful to say that they live in "Ramblewood" which is the subdivision of Coral Springs where I lived. We lived on 96 St & 162 Ave, but I don't think of myself as being from 'old' Howard Beach because we moved there just as the subway was extended to it and I always considered that to be the defining line between old & new residents.
