Lindenwood 1958-1964
Greetings from Rock Hill, SC. Where were you when JFK was assassinated in 1963? I was in 5th grade at PS-232 in Lindenwood, Howard Beach. We moved to HB in 1958 and left in 1964. We lived at 89-36 155th Avenue. My father, who died in October 2006 at age 83, was president and secretary of the Lindenwood Co-Op Committtee. My parents published the “Vineyard News”, a Lindenwood weekly. I was just a little punk, but I did all the proofreading for that paper. I played good hardcore Little League baseball at the Conduit Blvd. fields, no t-ball or coach-pitch, no batting gloves, just real baseball. Also I played some great games of stickball against the high rise apartment walls across the street from my garden apartments. I was a pretty decent bowler at both the Americana and the Crossbay lanes … one of those bowling centers had two stories, but I can’t remember which! Most importantly I remember some very, very fine girls, and kept my breath fresh with Sen-Sen, but was just a hair too young to get past “first base”!!! LOL...I’m 53 now and have been gone for 42 years. Howard Beach is a great place. I hope to return someday to see how it looks now and take pictures for my mother. Great site … Kudos to whomever is responsible for creating and maintaining it! Email me if you remember me. Peace -- Gary
