In Memory of Joanne (Manginelli) Petronis
Joanne Petronis: During the early hours of Thursday, Dec. 21, 2006, Joanne Petronis passed away peacefully with her mother and son at her side. Joanne was born on Oct. 12, 1949, in Brooklyn, the daughter of Pasquale and Pauline Manginelli. Soon after graduating from Jamaica High School in 1967, Joanne went on to marry her husband of 36 years, retired New York City Police Officer Gerald T. Petronis. After completing courses in children's writing, Joanne received inspiration from author Gladys Taber that led her to have many of her poems published by numerous sources. An avid doll collector, Joanne took great pride in her collection of Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls. Joanne's greatest satisfaction came from raising her two beautiful children, Seth Michael Petronis of Milford and Danielle Elizabeth Oliva of Astoria. She is survived by her mother, Pauline Manginelli; one son, Seth Michael Petronis; one daughter, Danielle and her husband, Tony Oliva; three grandchildren, Braden Petronis, Jordan Oliva and Zachary Oliva; four sisters, Patricia Ambrosio, Carole Alicino, Phyllis Asaro and Bernadette Yearwood; many nieces and nephews; her son's dog, Dylan, and her cat, Woodstock. She is predeceased by her father, Pasquale Manginelli; and her grandparents, Joseph and Bernadette Manginelli and Joseph and Pauline Stack. The family thanks Dr. Patrick Dwyer, Dr. James Leonardo, Jacelyn Sadlon, Crystal Wust and last but not least, Dr. Charles Howarth, for all their support during this very trying time. Interment will be private in the Schenevus Cemetery and a memorial service will be announced in the spring. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in loving memory of Joanne to the Louis Busch Hager Cancer Center, 1 Atwell Dr., Cooperstown, NY 13326.
