Thing Have Really Changed and Yet

Howard Beach has a 'new' web site?, when we moved to HB in 1955, it didn't even have a subway, New Park Pizza was an empty shack one drove by coming into HB, (unless you came in by the 165 St bridge), Cherry Forest and Mary's Farm were still extant, the drive to fund the new convent was getting under way (Father Harty had recently been transferred from our old parish in Long Beach), we read & delivered the L.I. Press, Malone's was still Barnet's, Heller's drug store was across from OLG etc.  Sure that there a lot of people out there with memories to share.

When E. B. White wrote "Here is New York" for the New Yorker back in the 1940's, he made the point that two of NYC's most vibrant traits were that it constantly changed while still retaining the same character and that no matter how far they moved, New Yorkers always remained New Yorker's.  Howard Beach and its current and past residents certainly support that image.
