Flood Insurance?
I am in the process of purchasing a new home in Howard Beach. Should I also include flood insurance with my homeowners insurance? Does anyone have a problem flooding in Howard Beach? My house does not have a basement.

Flood Insurance?
I remember many times HB houses flooding. I would purchase it, rather be safe then sorry & the premium should be inexpensive. Good luck with your new purchase.

Flood Insurance?
We had a four foot crawl space and had water come into the first floor once in the late 1950's, but at that time HB was 70% vacant lots overrun by cattail weeds. Item in WSJ stated that NY was number 2 behind Florida in flood claims in 2006. Item further stated that FEMA provides a web site WWW.FLOODSMART.GOV that will provide information about risk, probable premiums etc.

It really depends on which part of Howard Beach you are planning to purchase your house at. If you'd like, you can PM me the cross street. If you are looking in Old Howard, Hamilton or Ramblersville, I would say most likely yes. I've lived here all my life and floods happened. Last one was this past April, we had about 4 - 5 feet of water in our basement. Edited by - cheeky on September 03 2007 08:49:09 AM
