St. Helens Religion Extortion
I received a letter from my sons religion school (St. Helens) on Saturday, April 28th about price changes for religious education. I am not upset about the rise to $130, it is the part that I have to give $250 a year minimum or else. That is EXTORTION. I give what I can and it is nobodies business that I have to meet with to discuss my finances. I don't think this letter is legal or ethically correct. If it cost more to run a school you raise your price but putting a price on organized religion and telling a parent that you have to give a certain amount of moneyor else is ridiculous and wrong.

That is terrible! Religion should be free. God doesn't need money. If you want to donate something, that's different, but you should not have to meet with anyone to discuss your finances! I would not attend that Church.

I understand your opinion but I think that this doesn't concern you in Florida. You left here and this doesn't affect you personally from where I am standing. I don't need a "HIGHER SOURCE" telling me how to spend my money or a organized religion. The government does a "wonderful" job of that. This is why people and leaving religion. It is a business now more than a faith. Sorry you don't agree.

I thank you for your opinion. At least you understand what I am saying unlike other people. I work to support my family. To house, clothes and feed and to give them something to believe in. Not give it all away because a church says I have to. Thank you.

Just because i am in Florida, does not mean it does not concern me. Every religion looks to collect money one way or another, does not matter what nationality, they all try to get donations however they can....And if you think it is any different in Florida then New York, you are very wrong!!!!!! Whether you call it extortion or not, you need to do what makes you feel good!!!!!!!!

I give what makes me feel good and what I can afford to give. There are other charities that I give to also and they don't ask for a certain amount or else. What ever you give is never enough for the church but is good for any other charity. I'm done with this conversation because you just don't understand that the church doesn't come first. My family being provided for comes first and everything else is behind that.

I agree with you that God comes first but not the Church. Yes, most religions want to be supported but that doesn't mean they should tell you how much to give. God is in your heart. He doesn't care about your pocket. He wants you to take care of your family first. At least that's the way I see it.

I thank you for your honest opinion. The other person(metfan1953) that keeps seeing it some other way is lost. If his boos told him that if he wanted to work for them he had to give him money because he felt like it I don't think "metfan1953" would like it. A charity takes what is given and is thankful for what it receives. They don't tell you to give this much or go somewhere else. I don't think there is any other way to explain this to some people. They rather give all away, starve their family and put them out on the streets for a belief that is free to all anywhere you want to believe.

What does that last comment have to do with anything. Try to stay focused on the subject and not get personal for no reason. This is a discussion, not an argument. What I do know is that we are entitled to our opinion and thats where it should stay or just let it go. This not about baseball, it is about my right to give what I can afford to and have to disclose to the church my financial records. It is none of their business. Thats all!!!
