Cliff's Boatyard

Hi,

I the late 1950"s my gradfather, Ed Butler, docked his boat at Cliff's boatyard.  As I recall, it was just to the left of the wooden bridge, across the canal from CrossBay. He, my grandfather, was a member of the Bayrunner's Club. I'm wondering if anyone can confirm that I am correct about the boatyard name and location and might tell me anything about Cliff, the Bayrunner's Club, etc.

Any pictures would be wonderful.

Thx, Jim

Re: Cliff's Boatyard

It's been a long time.....

I had a boat at Cliff's from 1953, until he retired and sold the land in 1975.

I believe I remember Ed Butler...If I'm remembering correctly, he had Steelcraft cabin cruiser....blue....he was retired, and I hink he travelled all over in the boat and his wife wrote articles for a boating magazine.

As I said...it's been a long time,. I went out with him many times, and cruised the area.

There was a very close crowd of boatowners at Cliff's and we all spent just about all of our spare time there...summer and winter.

Cliff retired to Sarasots FL, and his son, Cliff Jr went too i believe.

Re: Cliff's Boatyard

Hi Mike,

I can confirm the cabin cruiser and retirement. I am not certain as to boat color or mak. If Ed and Elizabeth travelled widely and wrote boating articles, it would be news to me. Ed was balding, wore glasses and tended to whistle as he puttered around. I think I was once told that he was Commodore of the Bay Runners Club for a time.

I remember a lunch counter at Cliff's (possibly a bar?). My young memories only carry me this far.

If there is any chance that you might have pictures of the boatyard (or could direct me to same) I would be happy to bear the costs of duplication or printing.

My email is jimplaysports@gmail.com.

Thanks very much for sharing memories with me.

Jim
